Exploration Drilling - Dry Creek Underground
Introduction
The following describes the activities to be conducted within the Seneca 1)-Y permit
boundary in conjunction with the exploration plan for Dry Creek Underground Mine. The
drilling and seismic lines will be limited to Section 10, TSN, R88w, es shown on Figure
MR23-1, Seismic Line end Drill Hole Locations.
Drilling Program
There will be two core holes (395 feet and 35D feet) and one water monitoring well (350
feet) drilled. The monitoring well will be completed in the 4adge coal formation. The
two core holes will be reclaimed upon completion of the project. the monitoring well will
be reclaimed in the future after it has served its intended purpose.
Access to the drilling locations will be afforded by light-use roads. The light use road
on the west side (approximately 500 feet Long) will be constructed in an area that was
used for access to Stockpile PP. The road has since been reclaimed. Redisturbance of the
road will be kept to a minimum by "wind rowing" the topsoil from the road. A 50' x 50'
• drill pad will be constructed for the drill rig to set on to conduct the drilling, Eech
drill pad disturbance will be reclaimed within a week or two after drilling operations are
completed; therefore, a temporary berm constructed on the down slope portion of each drill
site should be sufficient for sediment control. Should there be a delay in reclamation
activities, strew bales end/or other methods of sediment control will be undertaken. In
ell cases, drill pad disturbance will be kept to the minimum required for drill rig
access. Topsoil will be selvaged and stored towards the end of each drill site. Each
drill pad will be reclaimed within a week or two after drilling operations; therefore, no
temporary topsoil stabilization measures will be necessary. Should there be a delay in
reclamation activities, temporary stabilization measures, including seeding, will be
utilized. The disturbed area surrounding the monitor well will be regraded, topsoiled,
and seeded as stated in the Exploration/Reclamation Plan with no topsoil pile left
remaining.
Existing jeep trails will be utilized to access the holes on the east side of the
property. Peabody will not alter any existing roads to be used for access to the proposed
drill sites. Vehicul ar travel will be held to the minimum needed to conduct the
• exploration program. A light use road will be constructed from the jeep trail to the
core/well location. Road length is approximately 7700' long x 20' wide. A 50' z 50'
12-7-1 Revised 05/24/93
