be thought of a~emoving a surface cap of sand~d gravel from
over the calcareous shales in the area.
' As the mining phases proceed southward the area being worked
will increase in size due to the thinning of the gravels and
sands. The first year the 1 acre of mining will provide about
1 26,000 tons. Due to the wedging out of the sand and gravel at
the southern end of the permitted area (Photo D-1, in the
successive years the acres being mined will have to be increased
by 1/4 then 1/2, then 3/4, etc. to maintain the level of
commodity extraction at or near the first years extraction rates.
' All operations will be with truck, and frontend loaders. No
blasting, washing, screening etc, is anticipated. Stockpiling of
pit run sand will occur for winter use on highways.
' Water will be hauled to the site in 5,000 gallon tankers.
The water will be used for dust suppression and range fire
control if needed.
The sand stockpile will be placed near County Road 31 that
it is readily accessible with minimum snow removal.
