11,88 <br />36--Clapper-Ustic Torriorthents complex, 5 to 40 percent slopes. <br />This map unit is on high terraces, breaks, and mesas. The native <br />vegetation is mainly grasses, pinyon pine, and Utah ,juniper. <br />Elevation is 5,500 to 6,800 feet. The average annual precipitation is <br />12 to 14 inches, the average annual air temperature is 48 to 48 <br />degrees F, and the average frost-free period is 110 to 130 days. <br />This unit is 45 percent Clapper loam and 40 percent Ustic <br />Torriorthents. The components of this unit are so intricately <br />intermingled that it was not practical to map them separately at the <br />scale used. <br />Included in this unit are about 10 percent Barx soils, 5 percent <br />Bond soils, and small areas of soils that are similar to these Clapper <br />soils but have greater than 40 percent weighted calcium carbonate <br />_, equivalent. <br />The Clapper soil is deep and well drained. It formed in cobbly <br />alluvium derived dominantly from igneous rock. Typically, the surface <br />layer is brown loam about 5 inches thick. The upper part of the <br />subsoil layer is pink loam about 6 inches thick. The next 9 inches is <br />i' <br />white cobbly loam. The lower part to a depth of 61 <br />pinkish white very cobbly loam. In some areas the <br />gravelly loam. <br />Permeability of the Clapper soil is moderate. <br />capacity is moderate.
