Bald eagles are occasionally seen along the Colorado
River in Glenwood Canyon throughout the winter months. Other
raptors Birds are frequently observed on hunting forays along
the river or perches in cottonwood trees. Otherwise, there are no
known threatened or endangered species of animal life in the areas
of the proposed quarry site.
This area is not a wild horse range nor a summer cattle
grazing area. There is no aquatic habitat within at least one
mile of the proposed site.
The Division of Wildlife recommends that mining be
restricted during the period from December 15 through April 15 of
each year (See letter at Attachment #2). Garfield County concurred
in this recommendation by including it as a condition to the Special
Use Permit. Mid-Continent sees no problems at this time in
restricting mining operations during this four month Deriod of
each year.
