Renewed mining operations will have the effect
of immediately displacing animals inhabiting the immediate area and animals
using the adjacent lands for foraging or hunting. However, because this
site has been previously disturbed and operated periodically, the impact is
expected be minor and temporary and any wildlife using this area will
return upon completion of the project.
The elements of potential wildlife habitat are rated according to the
amount of vegetation that is available to wildlife as food and cover. The
kind and abundance of wildlife that populate an area depend largely on the
amount and distribution of food, water and cover. If any one of these
elements is missing, inadequate or inaccessible, wildlife tends to become
scarce or does not inhabit the area. According to ratings criteria
relating soils, vegetation types, and wildlife habitat potentials, the
existing disturbed site would be rated as very poor, but the surrounding
relatively undisturbed area would be rated as good for woodland-type of
habitat and fair to good for riparian-woodland wildlife habitat.
As indicated throughout this plan, the area to be affected has been
historically impacted by mining. There are no freshwater ponds nearby the
mine site. Gold Creek, a perennial stream, flows to the west of the site.
The major species likely to be transient to or inhabit the site or use
the immediate adjacent areas are given below. There are no threatened or
endangered species known to frequent the area which may be adversely
affected by the operation.
-12-
