Box 5243
Denver, Colorado 80217
DATE: March 29, 1978
_ 50IIS INFORi`tATION _
All soils information can be found in the Douglas County Soil Survey Book.
P.ECOMMENDATIONS FOR RECLAPIATION
Revegetation practices will be done continually until all mining is completed.
Topsoil should be stockpiled and used on cut slopes for seeding. Company
plans to grade slopes to a 5:1 slope: We recommend nothing steeper than a
3%:l.
Application rates for fertilizers should be determined from soil tests.
Apply fertilizers at the time of seeding, when conditions are favorable for
germination. Maintenance applications of fertilizers may be required in
later years on soil-test recommendations.
Seed slopes to adapted, sod-forming grasses. Drilling is recommended, but
on steep slopes hydroseeders or broadcasting can be done. Use SCS SCandards
and Specifications on Critical Area Planting. See attached form Go-Cons-6,
seeding guide sheet. The acres in (4) are the approximate total acres.
Since seeding will be done in increments, use the required rates per acre in
(3)•
Adapted shrubs and trees can be planted for additional erosion control. See
attached list of recommended plantings.
i~tulch after seeding to protect area fmm soil erosion and aid in stand es-
tablishment. Straw mulch or mulch netting can be used. Uniformly spread
straw at a rate of 1'-i-2 tons per acre, Crimp straw to secure.
Maintenance after seeding is important to maintain an adequate cover. Supply
new seedings xith supplemen[al water until established. Plantings caill re-
quire regular watering the first couple of years. Control weeds by mowing or
with chemicals.
We recommend use of level terraces to control runoff and erosion on the newly
shaped slopes. P.equest SCS at that time for technical assistance.
