Revegetation
Prior to completing Phase 3, Connell will landscape the north, south, and east edges of the
property. Landscaping these areas will aide in creating a visual screen of the operation. The
landscape plan is diagramed on Exhibit F. The following are notes in regards to the plan.
1) Plantings of trees and shrubs will be irregular clusters of 5 trees and 5 shrubs each.
2) Tree and shrub selection will be random from the listed plant materials.
3) Berms will average 4 to 5 feet in height and 40 to 70 feet in width as shown on the plan.
4) Landscaping along the north, south, and east boundaries to be completed prior to Phase 3
mining.
5) All plant material must meet American Association of Nurserymen specifications for
number one grade.
6) All plant material must be balled and burlapped or container grown. Bare root planting is
allowed, but discouraged.
Since Connell will be altering the groundwater flow during mining, it might be necessary to
irrigate the landscaping. They will use water trucks and/or pumps to get water to the plants.
They will also construct irrigation ditches or construct wells around the plant clusters to capture
irrigation water. Connell will supplement the water to the landscaped areas for at least the first
two growing seasons so these plants will not fail to thrive.
Reseeding of the property will be done after an acceptable seedbed is prepared. Grass seed will
be planted with a drill equipped with depth bands and press wheels. The grass seed mix will
include drought resistant varieties and will be planted in either early spring or fall to insure
germination.
Grasses planted in early spring should be warm season cover crops. The permanent grass seed
should then be drilled into the cover crop in early fall without additional tillage. Grasses planted
in the early fall will be permanent grasses and covered with straw mulch at a rate of 4,000 lbs.
per acre immediately following seeding. The straw should then be crimped into the soil to
control erosion until the grass becomes established.
The reclamation plan will vegetate all disturbed areas with appropriate seed mixes to minimize
erosion and re-establish natural terrain. The Fort Collins Soil Conservation Service (SCS)was
contacted for recommended seeding mixtures. Following is the seeding recommendation from
the SCS.
8
