• Sylvester Gulch drainage and construction of surface facilities at the lower two
branches within the drainage. Facilities will be generally sited within the drainage
bottom and on adjacent terraces and sideslopes, and will be constructed in phases. The
study area for this baseline vegetation investigation comprised the lower drainage basin
of Sylvester Gulch from the existing junction with the mine access road south
approximately 1.75 miles along the drainage. Included in the study area were the three
lower drainage branches of Sylvester Gulch. The study area was a largely linear
corridor, including the drainage bottom, terraces, and sideslopes, averaging 300 feet
wide. The study area also includes the steep slope west of the Sylvester Gulch channel
and north of the current Dry Meadow Reference Area. The study area was selected to
include all of the area anticipated to be disturbed by the Sylvester Gulch Facilities
expansion. Not all of the area slated for disturbance will be disturbed at once. Figure
1 illustrates the study area.

-~
