MINED LAND WILDLIFE STATEMENT/EVALUATION (Revised)
for limited impact and select regular mine applications
-The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by
• Mined Land Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit
for: Leone Sand & Gravel, LLC - Leone Pit #2
LJ Development, Inc. 256 N Merrill Dr Pueblo West, CO 81007
Name/Type and Location of Mine (Legal)
Leone Pit #2 / Sand & Gravel R62W T32S Sec 29 S1/2 & Sec32 N1/2(180 acres)
Wildlife Species List:
Typical Upland Species
Various Passerine Birds
Mule Deer
Pronghorn
Scaled Quail
western Rattle Snake
•
Endangered/Critical Species/Impacted:
No known endangered or threatened species
No Prairie Dogs
Critical Habitats/Vegetative Communities Impacted:
Area contains shortgrass prairie with shallow soils.
Recommend that all areas disturbed be reclaimed back to native shortgrass
prairie habitat.
Assessment of Impact:
Site visit was conducted by Jeremy Gallegos - District Wildlife Manager
for the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
Disturbance to shortgrass habitat is likely to occur by the proposed
actions. There are no known species present in the area that are of
special status. Although impact to shortgrass habitat will be likely,
the overall impact to wildlife species is minimal.
Mine Reclamation Recommendations (include key species/habitats for
which restoration is designed):
Revegetate with native shortgrass prairie species of grasses, forbs, and shrubs.
Replacement of shortgrass prairie ecosystem should target listed wildlife species
impacted as a result of mining. Topsoil should be stockpiled and seeded with a
temporary seed mix to prevent loss from erosion during mining and should then be
respread prior to seeding with the reclamation seed mix. Livestock should be
excluded from the site until such time as the site is released and bond
returned. The site should be sloped to approximate contours that existed prior
to mining. A noxious weed plan should be developed and implemented both during
mining and during reclamation to eliminate establishment of any invasive and
undesirable species of vegetation.
Prepared By: Jeremy Gallegos - DWM, CDOW Date: July 12, 2006
• Submitted By: Dave Lovell - ARM, CDOW Date: July 13, 2006
This statement is void if not processed within 1 year.
This analysis does not constitute approval of application.
