SECTIONONE Introduction
Underground mining would be conducted 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year in
the Cameo Seam by room and pillar, as well as longwall, mining techniques. Conventional room
and pillaz mining would use continuous miners and shuttle cazs with belt haulage. Longwall gate
entries and bleeders would be developed with continuous miners and shuttle cazs. Retreat
mining would be conducted to attain the maximum recovery consistent with the safety and
protection of mine personnel and surface protection. CAM's production from the Red Cliff Mine
would be up to 8 million tons per year. CAM is proposing to load the coal onto rail cazs at the
mine site and ship it to coal consumers. The production rate at the mine will be controlled by
market conditions. Assuming an aperating cost of $3 to $5 per ton and a production rate of 6
million tons per year, it would cost approximately $18 to $30 million per year to operate the
mine. Construction of the facilities associated with the Red Cliff Mine would take
approximately two years and would cost approximately $163 million. In addition to the mine
portals, facilities proposed to be located within the ROW and Land Use Application area include:
• Portal Conveyor Transfer Buildings
• Fuel Oil Storage/Fueling Stations
• Electrical Substations
• Bathhouse/Office Building
• Outdoor Material Storage Areas
• Equipment Shop
• Warehouse
• Washbay
• Covered Storage
• Sewage Treatment Plant
• Water Tank
• Water Treatment Building
• Mine Vent Fan
• Power Line
• Non-Coal Waste Storage
• Rock Dust Storage
• Pump House
• Conveyor Transfer Building
• Railroad
• Maintenance Road
• Water Pipeline
• Coal Storage Piles
• Unit Train Loadout
• Coal Preparation Plant
• Mine Access Roads

1

1

1-2 ,
