September 11, 2006
Mr, David Lehmann
Natural Resource Specialist, BLM
2815 H Road
Grand Junction, CO 81506
Dear Bureau of Laod Management,
~:i~l:tV~~ ~
3flii~.r'~(1 ~F ~'z~.?~~ t~tGi T.
2006 SEP I I Pty 4~ 02
The Cameo power plant has provided our region with elearicity since the late 19505. The
McLane Canyon coal mine supplies our plant with fuel, and with the proposed expansiob,
the Red Cliff Mine could continue to do so for possibly another 50 years. Without the
McLane Canyon mine, our supplies would have to come Sam distant areas like Paonia
which ultimately would increase cost to consumers.
The 2005 Fneagy Policy A,ct, passed by Congress, encourages the development of law-
sulfurcoal to supply our ation with a reliable and afTordable sourve of electnieity. The
Red Cliff Mine is a great proposal that will boost current McLane Canyon production to
Harty 8 mullion tons of coal, amorally. This vohune will contribute not only to the heahh
of our economq, fist wt7l also keep the lights on in Colorado for decades to come.
Please make sure that the Cameo Power plain's continued operation is considered as your
agency moves forward in approving tbis expansion.
Sincerely,
~,a
AariA Sanders
Grand Valley Resident
Mesa Coumy, CO
r3~3 r~.ly ~.
~ ~A co , grsa~
