~;~ ~~~~/ l?~iacMT.
August 31, 2006
1400 N. 17`" ST.
Grand Junction, CO 81501
BLM, Grand Junction Office
C/o Dave Lehmann
2815 H Road
Grand Junction, CO 81506
RE: Scoping Period, Red Cliff Coal Mine
Dear Mr. Lehmann,
206 SEP l i Pf9 4~ O I
The EIS for CAM-Colorado, LLC should note that water consumption wilt not
be adversely affected by the proposed Red Cliff Coal Mine project.
The Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Recovery Program has
regulations concerning how much water can be taken from the river flow.
The water levels must be such that they do not hurt our environment,
wildlife, or livelihood. CAM complies with the regulations set forth by the
Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Recovery Program.
CAM is looking to remove 500 acre feet from Salt Wash. The amount of
water is insignificant.
During your data collection, we would like to see a comparative analysis of
how much water CAM is proposing to take out of the water body and how
much is removed by municipalities.
If CAM's level of removal is less than other entities and causes no significant
impact, the BLM needs to take this into consideration.
Also, the mining industry has a long history of working with constituents in
the area to ensure they are educated on the processes. The BLM and CAM
need to take time to educate the people of Mesa County and surrounding
regions.
Sincerely,
Taysha Byrd
