1/76 <br />~~ <br />14-Barnette Series (Argipachic Cryoborolls, fine montmorilloriitic) <br />The Barnette series consists of deep, well drained soils that <br />formed in weathered, mixed, sandstone and shale. Barnette soil s. are <br />on upland benches and sideslopes and have slopes of 3 to 65 percent. <br />The mean annual precipitation ranges from 16 to 20 inches and the <br />mean annual soil temperature is 43 to 45°F., and the mean sum~er soil <br />temperature is 56 to 59°F. <br />Barnette soils are similar to Grail, Work, and Hereford soils. <br />The Grail and Hereford occur in slightly warmer climates also, the <br />• Hereford soils have less than 35 percent clay in the control section. <br /> The Work soils have mollic epipedons of less than 16 inches in thick- <br />ness.and occur in warmer climates. <br />Typical pedon of Barnette loam, 25 to 65 percent slopes, in NE4 <br />of Sldy, Sec. 3, T.3N., 1t.93W•: <br />,. <br />
