i <br />Kemmerer Series (Borollic Camborthid fine montmorillonitic) <br />The Kemmerer series consists of moderately deep, well drained <br />soils that fo_^med in residuum weathered from shale, }_emmerer <br />soils are on upland shale ridges and benches in sideslope and ride <br />crest positions, and have slopes of 3 to 25 percent. The mean annual <br />precipitation ranges from 12 to 15 inches and the mean annual soil <br />temperature is 42 to 45 degrees F, <br />Kemmerer soils are similar to Abor soils, Abor soils have higher <br />percentages of clay in the subsoil and tend to crack when dry. <br />Typical pedon of Kemmerer silty clay loam, 5 to 10 percent <br />• <br />slopes, is located 800 feet west and 100 feet south of the northeast <br />corner of section 18, T.4N., R.934J,: <br />Al--0 to 3 inches; Light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) light silty <br />clay loam, dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) moist; weak fine granular <br />structure; hard, firm, sticky and plastic; mildly alkaline {pH 7,6); <br />clear smooth boundary, (2 to 4 inches thick) <br />B2--3 to 15 inches; light broomish gray (2.5Y}t 6/2) clay, (10 <br />• <br />percent yellowish broi+m (lO1R 5/6) weathered shale fragments), olive <br />brown (2.5Y 4/4) moist; moderate medium subangular blocks breaking <br />to weak medium subangular blocky structure; hard, firm, sticky and <br />plastic; calcareous; moderate alkaline (pH 8,0); clear wavy boundary, <br />(10 to 16 inches thick) <br />1, <br />
