Enfield Pit Mining Area
Enfield pit (E-pit), located on the eastern boundary of the Derringer pit mining area and at the divide of No
Name and Johnson Gulch watersheds, will remain idle (temporarily abandoned) during the 1998-2002
permit term. It will remain open to be used as a future ash disposal site. Final reclamation in Enfield Pit
will occur when its ash disposal capacity is used up (in approximately 2014). See Section 3.5.5 for a
description of temporary abandonment.
Flintlock Pit Mining Area
After walking from Ashmore South pit in September 1997, the Baby Doe dragline opened a boxcut in
Flintlock pit (F-pit). Located in the headwaters of the East Pyeatt drainage, mining in F-pit will advance to
the east for the duration of the 1998-2002 permit term. Refer to the M10 series maps for a yearly detail of
the mining and reclamation sequences for the 1998-2002 permit term.
FlinBock East Mining Area
Mining in the Flintlock East pit (F-East pit) is scheduled to begin in early 2002 when the Molly Brown
dragline completes stripping in Derringer pit and walks to this area. The F-East pit mining area is a
continuation of Ashmore South pit. However, two seams, the L-seam and M-seam, will be mined in
addition to the I-seam. Mining will advance to the east, from the East Pyeatt watershed to the Oak
drainage area, for the remainder of the 1998-2002 permit term. Refer to the M10 series maps for a yearly
detail of fhe mining and reclamation sequence for the 1998-2002 permit term
Getting Pit Mining Area
• The Galling pit (G-pit) is located in the southeastern region of the permit area at the headwaters of the
Flume Gulch and Deal Gulch watersheds. The initial overburden removal in G-pit will be accomplished
with scrapers. Upon completion of mining in Ashmore East pit in early 2002, the Queen Anne dragline will
move north to complete the boxcut started by the scrapers on the eastern mining limit of G-pit. Mining will
then advance to the west for the remainder of the 1998-2002 permit term. Refer to the M10 series maps
for a yearly detail of the mining and reclamation sequences for the 1998-2002 permit term.
Hawken Pit Mining Area
Mining in Hawken pit (H-pit) was wmpleted in April 1997. After performing reclamation activities, the
Queen Anne dragline walked to Ashmore pit in May 1997. Refer to the M10 series maps for a yearly
detail of the mining and reclamation sequences for the 1998-2002 permit term.
Ithaca Scraoer Pit Mining Area
There is no mining scheduled for Ithaca pit (I-pit) during the 1998-2002 permit term. This area was
originally projected to affect previously disturbed and reclaimed but unmined land. It was to be located on
the northern fringes of the old Ashmore pit located in the Coyote watershed.
3.1.5 ReGamation Plan
Following mining, pits are backfilled as a part of the overburden and interburden removal operation. As
the dragline excavates a pit, the overburdenlinterburden material is spoi{ed (backfilled) into the previous
pit. The backfill material is placed in piles that require additional contouring. Contouring is accomplished
• with dozers, graders and similar equipment. Occasionally, the dragline is also used. The backfilled pit is
graded to approximate the pre-mined contour and blended in with the surrounding topography. Final
grading is performed along the contour except where the safety of men and equipment may be
compromised.
3 15a Revisio^: T~ 69
App~ov~: 11 fr/ f o l
