c. If the applicant wants to vary channel depths, then these
• depths should be clearly outlined on the Mine Facilities Map
Ma 12 .
Res onset As shown on the Mine Facilities Map (Map 12), the
channel follows the contour of the land and, therefore, varies
along its length. The analysis performed gives the range of
minimum size for different slopes. Peerless has utilized the
largest channel size along the entire length of Ditch No. 2 to
ensure adequate sizing of the structure.
d. How much freeboard will be included in this channel design?
Response: The design freeboard for Ditch No. 2 is 1.0 feet.
e. The Division suggests that Peerless investigate the
possibility of retaining this ditch as a permanent diversion.
Once the above comments are addressed, the ditch will be
designed in accordance with the regulations for permanent
diversions. This will be beneficial both in terms of
establishing drainage on the light use road and diverting some
of the steep slope flaws away from reclaimed areas to prevent
ull in .
Response: Peerless may investigate the retention of Ditch No. 2 as
a permanent drainage feature after a mining and reclamation plan is
granted by the Division.
5. The same comments in 3 a and b above apply to Ditch No. 3. ~In
addition, what will the actual channel depth be in this channel?
Response: Ditch No. 3 has been designed similarly to Ditch No. 1,
as previously discussed in responses 3 A and 3 b.
• As shown in the adequacy responses of April 15, 1985, the design
channel depth is 0.53 feet.
-9-
