'• Issues: April 18. 1995. Twenty samples exceeded the number required according to the
adequacy calculations (see Table 3).
' Both relative and absolute cover for 1998 closely resemble the estimates from
1997. One notable difference is that the noxious weed cover has dramatically decreased
from 1997 (5.1% relative. cover) to 1998 (1.7% relative cover). This is due to the
operator's intensive spraying last summer. Perennial, non-noxious relative cover was
' slightly higher than last year, a continuing trend since sampling first began in 1991.
Overall, twenty perennial species were sampled, four of which contributed higher than 3%
relative cover. The community appears to be very healthy and balanced, and faz exceeds
' the actual DMG requirements for bond release.
' CONCLUSIONS:
' The Red Canyon mine exceeded the vegetation requirements in 1997 and 1998
with regard to absolute cover, which is the lone vegetative success standard that will apply
' for Phase III bond release consideration. In 1998, non-noxious, perennial vegetation was
estimated at 40.6% absolute cover, much greater than the success standard of 23%.
Twenty samples exceeded the number required by the sample adequacy calculations by a
N wide margin. The quality of the vegetation as demonstrated in the cover estimates in 1997
and 1998 clearly qualifies the mine site for final bond release consideration .
~~
1

G~
