~ i I g a art e
p.o. box 471 131h entl spruce at boulder, Colo. 80302 441-3930
30 September 1977
Mr. Tom Hendricks
Hendricks Mining Company
P. O. Box 653
Nederland, CO 80466
Dear Idr. Hendricks:
etl Hard a. fep0
plonninp director
This letter is in reponse to your telephone call of September 29,
1977, regarding mining near Caribou in Sections 8 and 9, T1S,
R73W. You stated that your company owns approximately 135 acres
of patented mining claims and is involved in underground mining
on a portion of this land. This property is located in the
Forestry (F) Zoning District an3 subsurface mining is a permitted
use provided offensive odors, noise, fluids, and dust are confined
to the premises. The County has not inspected the subject opera-
tion so we are not certain that the conditions listed ak~ove are
• being satisfied.
I discussed this matter with tor. Tom Lemire, Boulder Cii:y/County
Health Department, this morning. He intends to schedules a visit
to the Hendricks' site to investigate the levels of dust; generate3,
chemical release into water courses, noise, and other e~ivironmental
factors associated with the operation. It is my unders~=anding that
he will be phoning you today and hopes to arrange the v:~sit for
Tuesday, October 4, 1977.
The County is currently involved in the development of •s Compre-
hensive Land Use Plan. In the future, we anticipate re3uesting
that operators involved in subsurface mining in the For=_stry Zoning
District file a letter of intent with the County. This information
will serve to keep our Staff informed of mining operations and may
also be of use to adjacent property owners in terms of informing
them of nearby mining activities.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at the Planning Office if you
have questions concerning this matter.
Yours very truly,
-~
• Barbara Bryan
Planner
BB:cls
cc: J. Baratta, J. Dean, T. Gray
