This will prevent impacts to adjoining property that could be <br />caused by impeding the flow. <br />Flood waters spilling over the sill structure will flow <br />into the depression formed during Phase I mining. The flow <br />velocity will decrease as the water enters the depression. This <br />will permit deposition of the bed load which will cause rapid <br />refilling of the abandoned pit. The average vetoci_ty of flow <br />through the nit will be less than 2 feet per second. At the <br />'r~fh end of the gravel pig-where t e s reambed gradient returns <br />to the natural (pre-mining) slope, the flow velocity will <br />increase to 6.9 feet per seconds. This velocity is very close to <br />the pre-mining bank-full velocity of 5.3 feet per second shown in <br />Table i. It is felt that this small increase in velocity at the <br />downstream end of the pit will not result in increased scour or <br />erosion of lands outside of the permit area. <br />Page 4 <br />
