ponds. The stability of the earthen ponds and overall condition of
• the impoundment system was checked for leaks, eroded sections and
general deterioration by Hazen Research, Inc. (HRI) of Golden,
Colorado in the spring of 1977. This inspection verified the good
condition of all ponds. Leakage from the bottom of the ponds, which
were constructed with clay and gravel, into Ralston Creek was not
evidenced by HRI's analysis of water samples taken from the stream
directly opposite each pond.
Additionally, construction of spill prevention and containment
facilities at the ore sorting plant will be completed in the fall of
1977. Figure D-7 shows the expanded facilities which will soon be
completed.
Size of Working Areas
Since the mine is an underground operation, surface disturbances
• and working areas are identified in the context of support facilities
and operations only. At no time will mining be conducted using methods
other than those described above.
Referring to Exhibit A, the following list of areas can be classi-
fied as moderate disturbances according to the applicable rules and
regulations: stabilization of waste dump; access roads; water treatment
plant and settling ponds; employee parking area; and areas in which
structures, equipment, machines and tools used for the mining operation
are situated.
Timetable of Mining Operation - CONFIDENTIAL -
The nature of the known reserves at the mine, which are defined
by a steeply dipping to vertical vein deposit; improvements in mining
•
D-15
