1
1 Groundwater Division

' Volclay®Grout
' High Solids Bentonite Grout
(New 1-Step Mix)
Description: Volclay®Grout is a 20% solids, polymer free, single component,
bentonite grout.
Recommended Use: Volclay®Grout is designed for use in sealing well casings and de-
'~ commissioning abandoned wells and boreholes, and sealing closed
loop heat pump systems. It forms a low permeable, flexible seal.
I Characteristics: o Single component for 1-step mixing, no initiator is needed.
o Low permeability, laboratory tests range from 1 x 10-' to 1 x 10'8
cm/sec.
[ _ o Laboratory test range pH from 5 - 6.
o WiI! not damage well casing, no heat generated during mixing or
curing.
o Remains flexible, maintains putty-like consistency over time and
will rehydrate.
' o Physically stable, will not flow through highly permeable soils.
o Longer placement time than with bentonite polymer grouts.
o Can be positively placed using tremie pipe method ensuring
uniform, consistent application.
L Mixing and
Application: Add SO lbs. of Volclay®Grout to 23 gallons of fresh water to produce
3.5 ft' of grout. This is a 1-step grout and NO INITIATOR IS NEC-
ESSARY. For best results, the grout should be mixed with a venturi
1 , type jet hopper or commercial grout mixer. Volclay®Grout remains
placeable for at least two hours. The grout should be pumped
through a side discharge tremie pipe or other applicable method
which displaces the grout from the bottom of the well up to the
' surface. Pumping should continue until the grout purged to the
surface is at the proper mud weight of 9.41bs./gallon.
'' Packaging: SO lb. multi-wall, paper bag, 48 bags per pallet. All pallets stretch-
wrapped.
1
