1
.i
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
sss
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203
Gentlemen;
CJ
January 3, 1980
I am in receipt of a letter (a copy of enclosed)'from
Suburban Reddi-Mix telling about a surface mining operation
for sand and gravel in our area. The letter states that
written objections should be sent to your office no later than
January 7, 1980.
The laugh of this letter is how they will complete this
job in the year 2002, (just around the corner), and it will
be put back into recreation and wildlife habitat. I wonder
how many of us will be around to see that this will be done
(due again to all the law changes to fit the big man with
money). Also, you seem to ok these projects (I have been
to these meetings before with my neighbors) whether we give
you our good opinion or not. We get the feeling that all this
is just a formality with you to sit and listen to us
and as of yet we have not won one case.
Now my real question behind this letter is, how much
longer is the small farmer or ground owner going to be push-
ed around?
I hope in the year 2002 that the people can eat the
recreation and the wildlife habitat. The laws that you
people make and yet cannot see are putting the farmer and
rancher out of business. In my short years on a small farm
your laws have done nothing for us and one does not have to
look far to see we are dying a slow death. Yes, the answers
are we cannot slow progress. I hope you all remember this as
food from farms and ranches get put in a tighter squeeze and
I'm sure the farmer and rancher will read, like everyone else,
that food prices are high due to the high cost from the farmer
and rancher.
I have one consolation as I do live close to one neigh-
bor, a Ms. Fergeson, who has quite a bit of land and was
offered a large sum of money for it. tln this land is hay
and cattle, a beautiful sight that is slowly leaving this
area, and in talking with her one evening she made a state-
ment that as long as she is around that the land will always
be used to grow hay and run cattle.
