• §2.05 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING
ACTIVITIES -- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION AND
RECLAMATION PLANS.
2.05.4 Reclamation Plan
(2) (a} (Cont'd)
The Division has agreed to allow the operator to pursue revegetatoin of
the fill outslopes without the addition of imported soils. The operator will
monitor the success of revegetation and erosion control over a 2-year
period. Refer to Section 2.05.4(2)(d) for more specific information
regarding the rock fills revegetation.
Where asphalt is present and the depth of the fill would be less that four
feet, the asphalt will be removed prior to backfilling to allow sufficient
depth for plant root development.
(i) Schedule of Revegetation
Revegetation will be accomplished in the spring and fall following
final preparation of the land surface. Because the majority of the
precipitation occurs in the winter, fall is the first normal period for
• favorable seeding conditions and spring for planting at the East
and West Mines. See Final Abandonment Appendix in Volume
6A for specific times and acreages.
Interim reclamation of the rock slopes portals and fills will be
completed in the Spring or Fall following construction, whichever
is soonest. Excessive soil moisture and snow cover would affect
the timing of reclamation. Wet soils could not be evenly
distributed and seeding has proven to be unsuccessful on top of
snow.
Interim reclamation of the highway stockpile area was initiated in
June 2001. Cover material is being hauled from the Bowie No. 2
Mine gob pile founding to this stockpile area. Approximately
10,000 cubic yards will be utilized to cover the highway stockpile
area with about 12-inches of dirt. Soil will be spread in a way to
minimize compaction and the area will be seeded with the
temporary seed mix listed on page 72.
Revegetation of the fan level, including broadcast seeding,
fertilizing, and mulching, would be competed within one month
after backfilling of the ventilation shafts is completed. If the
backiilling is not completed before October 15, the area would be
seed in early Spring, before Marcht. Seeding dates may vary
. depending on weather conditions and actual completion dates.
~R-low
7/01
68
