Soils were identified as
Delson Inam, 3 to 12 perverrt slopes. Six feet of topsoil was salvaged
fran the 0.35 acre site and stockpiled along the eastern perimeter of the
site. Upon cessation of operations, the storage tank will remain for use
by the Pitkin Mesa Pipeline Company. ire topsoil is available for the
reclamation of other mine areas.
During the initial construction of the old waste disposal area during the
SulmOer' of 1980, six inches of topsoil was removed with a dozer and stock-
piled nearby. The stockpile was re•.~eeded in the Fall, according to Section
2.05.4(2)(e). The old wastepile was expanded to the south during
October, 1982. Eight irx3res of topsoil was salvaged and stockpiled. The
old waste pile was filled to capacity in August, 1983, and final soil
Dover and grading was congrleted. Following redistribution of six inches
of topsoil with a front end loader and blade, the surface was ripped. Due
to the limited quantities of topsoil available at the site, only the top
of the waste a;_~i area owld be topsoiled. Per the Division's
reocamnendation, fertilizer was applied to the cnrtslopes. The area was
fertilized and seeded during November, 1983. Vegetation was successfully
established by the next year.
7.n the Spring of 1985, spontaneous oranbastion in the old waste rock fill
was detected. Surficial cracks were tamped closed to cut off contact with
oxygen. As this method proved unsuccessful, topsoil and subsoil were
excavated and stockpiled. The hot material was excavated, cooled and
transported to the West Ridge disposal site. Excavated materials were
also utilized by the western Slope Carton wash plant facility. The area
will be reoontoured, subsoil and topsoil redistributed aryl the area seeded
during the Sunanes of 1988.
ire truck scales near the truck dump station were wnstructed during ta5e
Summer, 1981. Twenty-four inches of topsoil were salvaged from the site
per CNII.RD reo~nencsation. Ztre top 12" was stored nearby as topsoil

Revisers 08/02/90
65
