This mapping unit is planted with-a wide range of plant species.
Common trees planted are pinyon and Rocky Mountain juniper. Importa„t
fortis and shrubs include mountainmahogany, Louisiana sagewort,
fourwing saltbush, rubber rabbitbrush, and skunkbush sumac. Grasses
seeded that are expected to remain after an initial period of 5 years
include western wheatgrass, sideoats grama, Indian ricegrass, blue
grama, and sand dropseed. Little bluestem is expected to become
dominant on north-facing, gravelly slopes.
Over a long period of tim• other native species can be expected to

invade the site. These may include Scribner needlegrass, Gambel oak,
pinon ricegrsss, yucca, pricklypsar, and cholla. It is likely that
many areas will eventually support a widely-spaced stand of pinon and
juniper with ,a grassy understory. There are som• small areas with an
•xtramely acid surface layer that have remained barren after about 1
year following planting.
Most areas of this unit are poorly suited to homesite development.
The main limitation is steepness of slope.
This map unit is in capability subclass VIIe, nonirrigated. No
•
range site assigned.
i
~/
