" 9. The mining plan calls for Third Creek to be relocated
approximately 75 to 100 feet south of its existing location.
Land at the proposed relocation site is slightly higher (4
to 6 feet) than Land to the east. The relocated Third Creek.
channel will be excavated there with a plug left at its
upstream ,junction with the existing creek channel. Where
excavation is completed the plug will be removed and the
existing channel will then be plugged. Armoring will bcr
established at curve locations along the relocated creek and
at its ,junction with the McCann Ditch.
~10. Water will not be discharged into the South Platte Rivera.
Ornit the sentence on Paoe D-1, paragraph 4, "The water- will.
be discharged into the South Platte Rivera". The pits will
be mined without dewaterino.
JI1. The rnir~ir~g plan is sensitive to existing rnatur•e cottonwood
trees along the South Platte River. The pit excavation
boundaries were designed to retain as many of the trees as
possible. An estimated 10 to 15 mature trees will bs;>
removed due to the mining.
Regarding the gas pipelines and dikes through which the line
runs, again we are awaiting response from Coors Energy about
their^ lease ar~d adequacy of the proposal.
13. We have received a letter from Mr. Ben Urbonas (UDFCD)
reviewing the proposal. Response to his comments will be
processed separately.
Exhibit`E - Recl.amati~n.._Glarl
/1. The oper•ator• will distribute topsoil to a minimum depth of
10 to 12 inches. Rt the plant area, its end use being
agricultural, topsoil depth ranging from Sc to SE inches is
appropriate, and will be attained.
`/c. As per your comment, new recommendations for optimal
wildlife habitat configurations will be considered when they
become available.
3. Rs indicated on Exhibit F (Reclamation Plan), clusters of
trees and shrubs are proposed to simulate a natural
appearance around the lake shore. Cluster•a will contain on
the average 10 trees and 20 shrubs, anticipated survival
rates ar•e 75~. Large saucers will be constructed around
each tr-e e, at the time of planting, to allow better wa':,er•
retention and a higher- survival rate. Consider•atior~ will be
given to re-esta6lishino cottonwoods to compensate fora thasca
lost t0 tninlY~g.
