A slow response shape would correspond to a forested area or an area with a lot
of obstructions, while a fast response shape would correspond to an unvege[ated or poorly pro[ected area.
These ratings are for overland flow. Once overland flow is surpassed, a fast rating is assigned.
Lengths of overland flow (sheet and rill drainage) are direct input parameters in SEDCAD+ for sedimen[ology
analyses, and have an indirect influences on other parameters, such as LUC. The maximum permissible
lengths of overland flow used within this analysis, with corresponding hydrograph response shape parameters,
are presented in the following table.
Maximum Lengths (in feet) of Overland Flow and Hydrograph Response Shapes (Slow, Medium, or Fast)
Vegetative Cover Slopes less than or equal to 2S% Slopes over 25%
Coal Product 300 (S) 300 (S)
Mulched Areas
(no or little vegetation) 200 (M) 175 (M)
Bare, Industrial Areas 175 (S)(limited to areas of 2%
slopes or less)
Bare, Paved Areas 150 (F)
Rock Outcrop Areas 125 (F) 100 (F)
5
