Box 511
La Junta, Colorado 81050
RE: Hancock Gravel Pit - Our file no. 81-279
Dear Mr. Aldrich:
I have received and reviewed your letter answering my remaining adequacy con-
cerns about the permit application Eor the above captioned operation. I now
feel that all of my major questions have been answered, and I thank you for
your prompt replies and cooperation over these .last few weeks.
When the Soil Conservation Service considers the question of tl~e appropriate-
ness of the topsoil planned for import to this site for use in reclamation, .
they should also suggest the proper shrub species f.or planting in the depres-
sions that are now planned for the pit bottom (as per the suggestion of. the
Division of [Jildlife). I am quite sure that they can suggest one or more
species that would be useful for wildlife and grazing uses of the reclaimed
land. If the Soil Conservation Service is not able to produce this informa-
tion before the January 27-28, 1982 Board meetilTg, I could very easily add a
requirement for the information as a stipulation to the permit (to be submitted
within 6 months, for example). This would have the advantage of not delaying
the issuance of a permit for this operation. Unless you inform me otherwise,
I will plan to add such a stipulation to the permit if our Division has not
received the above mentioned items from the S.C.S. by the time of the Board
meeting.
I will plan to present this application in a "no problem", written fashion to
the Board during the next meeting. Therefore, you will not need to be present
at this meeting (to be held in Room 110 of our building, here in Denver).
Since surety is not required of counties, your permit For this operation will
be sent out as soon as possible after the Board has approved the application.
(In this regard, I do plan to recommend approval of the application with the
one possible stipulation mentioned above.)
Please call me if I can be of any further assistance.
Sincerely,
Mark S.
