UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE.
SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE
p. O. Box 85, Cripple Creek, Colorado 13 phone 9 25
Mine reclamation plan oaTe:February 23, 1981
'Charles Brechtel pAOE 5
Mulching 1 acre 250.00
Total 8900.00

The Carlton Tunnel site will disturb additional land. The existing
dump area will be used for settling ponds. The .new dump area should
have the top soil removed and stockpiled for later use. Because this
soil is deep, it will provide enough topsoil to help establish vege-
tation on the flatter area of the dump area. Care should be taken
when stripping the topsoil not to get into the present material and
large rocks. The new dump material will be left slightly flatter
than the angle of repose in order to. provide more stability of the
dump.
~A diversion will be used to safely convey runoff water away Prom the
settling ponds. This will prevent the settling pond from filling
with excess sediment and reduce the bhance.of an overflowing.of the
ponds.
Water coming down the main drainage past the tunnel will be. safely
controlled with the use of culverts or drop structures in the exist-
ing channel.
The water from the tunnel will be routed through the settling ponds,
with a drop structure letting water into the existing drainage.
Once the plan end location of the proposed settling pond is prepared,
some effort can be saved by applying top soil to the top area of the
dump. This will eliminette double hauling and stockpiling of the top-
soil. The'soil can be placed on those areas that will not be used
in the current mining operations.
Reclamation of the area has been discussed previously, but will also
include grading and shaping, fertilizing, seeding and mulching.
Seeding, fertilizing, and mulching rates for this area are included
on one of the CO CONS 6 forme. The total area for this work will be
about 3 acres.
Estimated Cost for Carlton Tvnnel Site (1981 cost}
Topsoiling 3 acres 81500:00
Shaping 3 acres 1200.00
Fertilizer 3 acres 150.00
Seed and Seeding 3 acres 300.00,
Mulching 3 acres 65.00
Total 8382$.00 O

i~h4392
