1 NPDES Permit Aoolication <br />IV e <br />•Surface modlflcation of the portal area will begin yin December1980.• <br />Rehabilitation of the tunnel will begin in January of 1981. This work <br />will consist primarily of cleaning out accumulated material in the ditch <br />alongside the track. refurbishing the track and completing some minor <br />support. work in the tunnel. <br />R'ollowing rehabilitation work in the tunnel. waste rock. from <br />development headings in the the A3ax Mine will be hauled through Lhe <br />tunnel and dumped along the. existing edge of the dump at the portal. . <br />The county road at the base of the existing dump will require moving <br />westward toward Four Mile Creek to penait dumping to continue with no <br />interference to traffic on the road. <br />Waste rock on the surface dump w11i be moved to penait con- e <br />struction of the settling ponds. Minor amounts of dozer work will be <br />required to relocate the-road at the base, of the dumps-and to form a ~; <br />safety berm between the dump area and the road.- <br />The existing Carlton Tunnel drainage will be diverted at. the <br />portal through the new settling ponds and then returned-to the present <br />course of drainage. The settling ponds. will hold approximately <br />179,000 gallons of water each. The ponds will be cleaned 6y a front <br />end loader when necessary. <br />The area of mayor disturbance if 7.0 acres.
