'~.~~` MINED LAND ~DL1FE STATEMENT/EVALUATION ~vised)
ti~'• -
y for limited impact and select regular mine applications
~ l-7~l
the following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by Mined Land
Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit for: ,'
Barnett Gravel wit ~ Opem Gravel Pit ~ NEySEi, &
and Location
Wildlife Species. list: '
Pronghorn
Deer(?)
Pheasant
Scaled Quail
Rabbit
Mourning Dove
Endangered/critical species/impacted:
None that we are aware of. '
Hine
Coyote " ' .
Swift Fox
Raptors (Transient)
Various nongame bird,
Critical habitats/vegetative communities impacted:
None that we are aware of,
Assessment of impact:
Sec. 33, T18S, R42W
mammal, & reptile spp.
D1lnimal due to it's location in a grazed pasture and the fact that a pit already exists
from previous gravel operations. .
Hine Reclamation recommendations (include key species/habitats for which restoration
is designed).
I recommend that the pit be graded & sloped to 3:1 or less and because the pit Ss lo-
cated next to milo fields, I also recommend that it be reseeded to grasses that enhance
game bird nesting (ie: Tall Wheat Jose, Switcharass, Sand Bluestem, Western Wheatgrass,
Crested Wheat, & Side Oats Grammes). Yellox Clover and Ladak Alfalfa should also be used.
The establishment of brush thickets would provide both food and cover for xildlife and
is highly recommended. Species to plant in order of preference are Pluri, Buffaloberry,
Chokecherry, Wild Rose, 8 Sandhill Cherry. To benefit Raptors & other bird species I
recommend the planting of trees like Russian Olive & Cottonless Cottonwood. A mainten-
ance free system of planting the shrubs is described by Warren Synder in April-Nay 1983
issue of Colorado Outdoors, a Colorado Division of Wildlife publlcation. Sealing part
or all of the pit would help hold water during wet years or after heavy thunderstorms.
Although not as effective as thickets, brush piles can be constructed to provided cover
for wildlife.
_ n A/` ~,0 ~ b/mss/~l
Prepared By:r -7l ~/~ _U[~ _ Date:_T
Submitted By:~. ~ _~ Date ;_ ~ :12~._
This statement is vo if no processe ~~thin 1 y~ar.
This analysis does not constitute approval of application. .
--`. _~.,
