~~~
State of Colorado 3
Mined Land Reclamation
August 11, 1973
C. Major, Moderate and Minor Disturbance.
The 30 acres of designated affected land pit this time
would be classed as 17 acres of major disturbance from
the previous 10 years of quarry operation, 9 acres of
major disturbance in probably 1-acre increments over
the next S-12 years. Minor disturbance would consist
of 4 acres of roadways (2 acres on site, ~: acres off-site).
D. Attached is a cross-section sketch to he1F~ depict the de-
posit as described in the application te~:t. Sandstone
(0-15 feet in thickness) comprised the original surface
which dips about 15 degrees to the east. Areas of least
overburden mostly have been already quarried. The lime-
stone deposit averages about 15 feet in tY~ickness and also
lies with an approximate 15 degree dip to the east. The
underlying material is also sandstone.
3. Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
A~ 15 degree slope is too steep for haul trucks to
negotiate, several access and haul roads a.re planned
that will cross the slope at various grades up to 6%.
Once these quarry roads are established or.. the unquarried
area, they will remain as access to future quarry opera-
tions both north and south of the presently designated
affected land. These roads will break up reclaimed sur-
faces into small areas and improve control of surface
drainage. See revised map, Exhibit F.
It will be necessary to construct roads to the final road
pattern with progress of the quarry, complete removal of
limestone deposit remnants and a period of time for over-
burden deposits to settle. Rough grading can be done at
the time final segments of road construction are completed.
F~iuish grading and revegetation will be completed after
mining of ttte'affected land is completed (8 to 12 years).
B.(1) Seeding--The attached seeding recommendations of the Soil
Conservation Service are as follows:
Needle and thread - 10 pounds pure live seed p/acre
Little bluestem - 5 pounds "
Indian ricegrass - S pounds "
(2) Fertilization--Areas to be reseeded will be fertilized
in accordance with soil testing under actual final con-
ditions. Another fertilizer application is normally
applied the second year after seeding. Some test plots
with various fertilizer replications and seeding will
be conducted prior to final reclamation.
