• Fe°cine
Fences were built to ensure the survival of new vegetation and to exclude livestock
grazing until stand establishment is ensured. Fences were designed to permit wildlife
movement. Fences are constructed with three strand barbed wire with strands
approximately 12 inches apart and with the top strand approximately 40 inches above
the ground. Fence maintenance during the bonding period will be conducted by Sun
Coal Company. Once reclamation is complete and the bond has been released, Sun
Coal Company will remove the fences unless the surface owner requests and receives
approval for their retention. If fence retention is requested, future maintenance will be
assumed by the surface owner.
ui ment
The following is a list of equipment used in completing the reclamation plan:
I each farm tractor with attachments
1 each tube and fuel truck
5 each CAT 631C scrapers with scarifiers
3 each CAT D8H dozers
1 each CAT 14G grader
1 each Case 580 backhce
• 1 each 966 loader
Reve¢etation Monitoringand Success Criteria-Reclaimed Mine Area
Determination of revegetation success will include the evaluation of total vegetation
cover, herbaceous production, and species diversity on the Grassy Creek parcel, and
evaluation of total vegetation cover on the Eilts parcel. Woody plant density will not
be evaluated on either parcel, as the surface landowners have requested that woody
plants not be established on their respective properties.
As of 1996, only one reference area will be used for establishment of revegetation
success standards for total vegetation wver and herbaceous production. The reference
area is a mix of cool season grasses and woody shrubs characteristic of old field
successional vegetation communities in the area. The reference area is referred to as
the Sage Grass Reference Area and is located approximately one mile west of the
reclaimed area.
Total vegetation cover will be measured in the reference area and GCCC reclaimed
area using quantitative methods acceptable to CDMG. Statistical sample adequacy will
be demonstrated. Revegetation on the Grassy Creek Coal parcel will be considered
successful when the reclaimed area total vegetation cover is within 90 percent of the
total vegetation cover of the reference azea with 90 percent statistical confidence.
• Revegetation at the Eilts parcel will be considered successful when the vegetation cover
is adequate to control erosion.
Technical Revision 20 -334 Revised 6/96
