In ]nose places it is in long, <br />narrow areas more than 20 acres iu size. This soil has <br />the profile described as representative for the series. <br />Included witl] this soil in mapping are small areas of <br />Valmont clay loam, 1 to .^, percent slopes; Nunn clay <br />loam, a to a percent slope=_; and Valmont cobby cla}• <br />loam. 1 to :i percent slopes. These included soils make up <br />abort 15 percent of each mapped area. <br />Runoff is rapid on this soil. The erosion hazard is <br />moderate. <br />Al] of the acreage of this soil is used for irrigated and <br />dn•land crops and for pasture. (Ca.pabilit}• netts IIIe- <br />°_- irritated. and IIIe-7, nonirrigated; tree suitability <br />group A) <br />almont cobbly clay loam, 1 to 5 percent slopes <br />(VcC1.-This soil is on high terraces and outwash fans in <br />[]]e west-celltra] part of the Area. In most places it is in <br />areas more tltcl] ?0 acres in size.. <br />The profile of this soil is much like the one described <br />as represt•ntative for She series, but, the surface laver is <br />abort 6 inches of cobbly clay loam. The subsoil is about <br />14 inches of cobbh• clai• loam or cobble clay (fig. 5). <br />Included with this soil in mapping is a Valmont-like <br />soil that is redder than this soil, that has less than 10 <br />percent gral~el and cobblestones, and that contains some <br />depressions supporting no vegetation and having a <br />crested surface laver. Also inchtded ere small areas of `'al- <br />mont clay loaul. a to 5 percent slopes. These included <br />soils make up abort ]5 percent of each mapped area. <br />Runoff is medium on this soil. The erosion hazard is <br />slight. to moderate. <br />This soil is not well suited to cultivation and the har- <br />vesting of craps becanseit.has too tunny cobblestones and <br />too much gravel on its surface. It is, however, a good <br />grass-prodnc.ing soil. \lost of the acreage is used for <br />native ran^e. A few small areas are used for ]mgated <br />pasture. (Capability units Vs-1, irrigated. and ~'IIs-1, <br />nonirrigated: tree snitAhilit.•y- group F) <br />Valmont cobbly clay loam, 5 to 25 percent slopes <br />IVcEI.-This soil is on the side slopes of higl] terraces or <br />outwash fans, maim}- in the south-central part of the <br />Area. Ill mast places it is in long, narrow areas more <br />than ~0 Aares in size. <br />The profile of this soil is m»ch like the one described <br />as roprese.ntatiye for t•he se.nics, but the surface layer is <br />about. 6 inches of cobbly clay loam. The subsoil is abort <br />12 inches of cobbl}• cla}• or clay loam. There are rarying <br />amounts of grat•el and cobblestones throughout the pro- <br />file, <br />Included with this soil in mapping are a few small <br />areas of a Valmont-like soil that has a layer of gravel <br />at a depth of morn than 40 inche=. A few minor areas <br />have shale or sandstone underlying the very grayelh• <br />lavers within a depth of 40 inches from the surface. <br />Also included are some small areas of Valmont cobbly <br />clac• loam. 1 to 5 percent slopes.
