J.E. Stover & Associates
Terracon Project No. 65995058
June 3, 1999
should be given to additional test borings on, and surrounding this area to determine the three-
dimensional profile of subsoils. Refined cross-sections should be developed on the basis of
that data and final stability evaluations performed. Additional exploration should be especially
considered if the slope is steepened to a 1-1/2H:1V configuration.
Sedimentation Pond: As previously discussed, geotechnical exploration has not apparently
been completed at the location of the proposed sedimentation pond. Additional borings, along
with applicable laboratory evaluation of subsurface soils are recommended at this location to
confirm and/or modify the assumptions of the subsurface conditions used in the analytical
models.
Reclaimed Slope Configurations: As presently planned, reclaimed slopes on the project will
be constructed with compacted soils at slope ratios matching those that currently exist, or that
will be flatter than those currently proposed. Based upon the results of the stability
evaluations, reclaimed slope configurations will have safety factors in excess of those outlined
• in this report.
GENERAL COMMENTS
Our analyses and recommendations have been based upon the data that we have reviewed
and the slope configurations that have been provided to us. Terracon should be retained to
provide a general review of final design plans and specifications in order to confirm that our
analyses remain applicable for the project. In the event that any changes of the proposed
project are planned, the conclusions and recommendations contained in this report should be
reviewed and the report modified or supplemented as necessary.
Terracon should also be retained to provide services during the excavation phase of the work,
particularly proposed cut slope locations to evaluate the validity of the subsurface profiles and
to confirm/modify the recommendations contained in this report. Observation of earthwork
should be performed by qualified geotechnical engineering personnel and is considered a
necessary part of continuing geotechnical engineering services for the project. Construction
testing, including field and laboratory evaluation of native soils and engineered fill should be
performed to determine whether applicable project requirements have been met.
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily
• exercised, under similar circumstances, by reputable geotechnical engineers practicing in this
or similar localities. No warranty, express or implied, is made. We prepared the report as an
10
