r
Letter to Carroll & Arlene Jantzen 2 June 22. 2000
Your concern with the compatibility of the pit with surrounding uses is outside the Board's
jurisdiction, and should be pursued with the local land use authority.
Your concern s with wildlife impacts are within the Board's jurisdiction. I have provided you with
a copy of the Division of Wildlife review of the application in a separate letter. The United States
Fish and Wildlife Service is reviewing the application in relation to the potential for threatened and
endangered species. Please also note that the goal of the reclamation plan for the pit is to create
wildlife habitat.
The discussion in your March 18, 2000 letter of a March 27 hearing probably refers to a County
hearing. Please understand that the County and State permitting processes are separate and address
different aspects and potential impacts of a gravel pit. The Formal Public Hearing at the State level
for the Loveland Pit will probably be at the end of August.
I will contact you with information on the time and location of the informal conference, pre-hearing
conference, and the Formal Public Hearing once this information becomes available. You will also be
provided a copy of the DMG's rationale and recommendation on the application prior to the Formal
Public Hearing. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
~~
Allen C.
