Please revise the reclamation plan to address positive <br />drainage flow from the pit. <br />Upon reclamation, the pit is designed to direct water to a low area, in which the <br />sediment facility has been located (see Revised Exhibits C-3 and F, including <br />notes on Revised Exhibit C-3). The fact that most areas of the pit do not have <br />direct positive flow into the surrounding landscape is purposeful, as positive flow <br />is achieved, but directed toward an appropriate collection and water quality <br />system. <br />There are no flat areas in the reclamation plan, all areas positively promote the <br />movement of water into the surface water system. <br />15. The introducfion section of Exhibit G states that "few wafer impacts <br />may be anticipated due to the landscape context. Few water demands <br />may be anticipated, since the clay mine is intended to ship raw materials <br />to the Applicant's brick plant without extensive handling prior to shipment." <br />Please describe the nature of these possible impacts and demands. <br />Generally speaking, the Kiowa Clay Mine is located in an upland area, on a <br />ridge, where water impacts will be minimal to non-existent, The site does not <br />contain any perennial drainages, no Waters of the United States, no jurisdictional <br />floodplain, and no wetlands. Groundwater is below the ultimate mining depth, <br />with no impacts anticipated to groundwater levels. <br />All runoff on the site is controlled in accordance with applicable stormwater <br />practices and regulations. <br />Possible Demands <br />The Kiowa Clay mine is intended to ship raw materials to the Applicant's brick <br />plant without extensive handling prior to shipment, meaning the clay will not be <br />washed before being shipped to the Applicant's brick plant. This virtually <br />eliminates the use of water on site, placing no demands on groundwater and no <br />need for a well on site. During mining campaigns, provisions will be made for <br />sanitation and hand washing by importing water to the site from consumable off- <br />site sources. <br />Possible Impacts <br />There are no anticipated groundwater impacts due to the landscape context. The <br />site is located on a ridge where no groundwater will be exposed before or after <br />mining. Groundwater will not be accessed through wells, because additional <br />water is not necessary for the mining operation; therefore, no new wells will be <br />drilled. There are no alluvial deposits on site or any similar geology, and no <br />
