Study Objectives The purpose of the study was to identify and record all cultural resources within the area of potential impact and to assess their significance and eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The presence of such resources was considered likely because of the occurrence of sites in the surrounding area. Field Methods A 100 percent pedestrian proposed powerline route was covering a corridor 200 feet was intensively surveyed for cultural resource survey of the walked in a zigzag transect wide. A total of about 22 acres cultural resources. Cultural resources were sought as surface exposures and were characterized as sites or isolated finds. Sites were • defined by the presence of six or more artifacts and/or significant feature{s) indicative of patterned human activity. Isolated finds were defined by the presence of 1 to 5 artifacts apparently of surficial nature.- Cultural resources encountered were to be recorded to standards set by the Colorado Preservation Office (CPO} of the State Historical Society. Study Findings/Recommendations As expected, cultural resources were encountered during the survey. Two isolated finds (5ME6899 and 5ME6900) were recorded. Detailed information about these two resources is provided in the forms found in the Appendix. ' Isolated find 5ME6899 consists of 2 flake fragments, and isolated Eind SME6900 consists of two flakes and a utilized cobble. Neither is considered significant. The isolated finds are recommended as not eligible for listing on the NRHP, and no further work is considered necessary. The project will have no apparent direct affect on these resources. Accordingly, cultural resource clearance is recommended for the project. • 5
