Mine 2, Fish Creek.
Photo 630. 9/22/78
I have examined that portion of Fish Creek delineated in yel-
low on the black and white photograph. All of it could be
viewed in stereo. This stream shows much more meandering than
on Middle Creek, suggesting that most of the flood plain of
Fish Creek in the area of interest is an alluvial valley floor.
On this September date, approximately 20 percent of the valley
bottom was still somewhat reflective in the IR indicating good
soil moisture. However, it appears that most of the area sup-
ports riparian vegetation. The photographic texture is rather
fine, suggesting a meadow or grassland vegetation rather than
a shrub type, although this is somewhat difficult to ascertain
at a 1:40,000 RF scale. Areas of September residual green vege-
tation almost certainly would be riparian or grassland vege-
tation. Further examination of the floodplain of Fish Creek
with a 10-power hand lens suggests that some of the direr por-
tions might contain shrub types. This, of course, is easily
verifiable with ground data. 2 think that most of the soil
in the flood plain would be alluvial in origin. The upland
sites above the floodplain are much drier in appearance and
would most assuredly be a shrub-grass type of vegetation.
