Doc Date:1211112001
ui nun~uuu~n 2.OS.Spage 1
sss ~
C~I~ I POST MINING LAND US~
ABANDONMENT OF THE KING COAL MINE
Specific details of the abandonment of the mine are discussed in Section 2.05.4. This is
part of the reclamation plan. The purpose of the reclamation plan itself is to prepare the mined
land permit area
for a useful and needed post mining land use.
POST MINING LAND USE
As of December 1999, mine life, based on reserve estimates andl projected annual
production of 200,000 t.p.y., is estimated to be approximately 150 months. Additional coal
reserves controlled by National King Coal, LLC but not yet permitted could extend mining as
much as 20 additional years.
At the time of abandonment or closure, the reclamation plan will be put into effect
restoring the mined land permit area from a mining use to wildlife habitat and agricultural
(rangeland, maintenance, storage and supply). As mentioned above, the land in Hay Gulch has
historically been used for grazing as well as mining coal. Of the 10.88 acres disturbed, 6.97 acres
will be reclaimed for grazing and grassland for the native animal and plant life. An access road
(See Map C-4) will remain intact for access to mine site property privately owned. National
King Coal, LLC has no intention of selling the property for any use other than that just
mentioned. The permit area will never again be suitable for coal mining because access to the
• coal seam will be impossible after main entry and barrier pillars are extracted in the King Coal
Mine.

December 1999
