2
It is highly recommended that the applicant coordinate weed treatment plan development and
implementation with Relly iJhing, Adams County Cooperative Extension (303-637-8100), to
ensure compliance with the Colorado Noxious Weed Act.
W~7,ter Storage Reservoir
The Reclamation map states that reservoir final slopes wll be reclaimed to a slope of 3H:1 V. It
is recommended that the final reservoir slopes be no steeper than 3: t, and preferably less steep
such as 4:1 or 5: 1, to permit eventual use of the reclaimed water storage reservoir by wildlife.
Steep slopes such as 3:1 can discourage wildlife Crom approaching and using the water reservoir.
Reclamation Re-Vegetation
The applicant proposes placement of 6" topsoil over reclaimed area's where requiieil. It is
recommended that this be increased to 12" topsoil that is spread in lifts not to exceed 4 inches
and worked into the slopes to ensure good adhesion and to minimize soil creep. In order to re-
establish normal levels of microbial activity in the soil, compost at the rate of one cubic yard per
1000 ft should be mixed with the soil. If compost is not applied, after topso>7 replacement and
before grass seeding, the soil should be tested to determine the need for additional fertilizer.
Recommended grass seeding dates aze from November 1" through Apri130'"; seeding should be
done in unfrozen soil. A good quality grass seed drill with an agitator, depth bands and press
wheels is recommended and planned by the applicant.
The following native grass seed mix and application rate is recommended for re-vegetation in the
soil types found in the mine area for upland and disturbed aeeas. It is based on MRCS "critical
area" seeding rates that are double our normal rates.
Upland and Disturbed Areas
100°i6 °~ In Mix Total LBS or
Common Name PLSIAcre PLS needed
er acre
Western wheat rass Arriba, Barton 16.0 30 4.8
Switch rass Blackwell 10.0 20 2.0
Bi bluestem Kaw 11.0 15 1.7
Green needle rass Lodorm 10.0 15 1.5
Blue rams Hachita, Lovin ton 3.0 10 0.3
Sideoats rams au hn, Butte 9.0 10 1.0
Total 100% 11.3
Note: Ifseed is broadcast, recommended rate should be
doubled.
