• 2.04.12 Prime Farmland Investigation
The initial permit application for the Carbon Junction Mine contained a letter dated
March 2, 1982, in which Mr. J.P. Pannell, a soils scientists with the U.S. Soil
Conservation Service reported that, "None of the map units are on "Alluvial Valley
Floors". None of these soils or map units are considered "Prime Farmland". A copy
of this letter is on file with CDMG.
The revised permit application submitted in 1993 contains Soil Map unit R8-CD, Falfa
Clay Loam, 3 to 8% slopes. This unit was not included in the previous SCS negative
determination. According to the SCS document entitled: "Classification and
Correlation of the Soils of the La Plata County Area, Colorado" the Falfa clay loam, 3
to 8% slopes, is only prime farmland if it is irrigated. There is no existing nor
historical irrigation within the permit area. There is no potential for irrigation in the
area. Based on this information, CDMG made a negative determination for the
presence of prime farmlands within the permit azea (see Proposed Decision and
Findings of Compliance for the Carbon Junction Mine C-92-080 [June 25, 1993]).
2.04.13 Annual Reclamation Reports
• Annual reclamation reports documenting the information currently required in Rule
2.04.13 will be submitted to CDMG on or before February IS of the following
calendaz year. The annual reclamation report will describe activities within the
permitted area for the previous calendar year.
•
Technical Revision 09 (v 1.0) 418 Revised 3/1998
