• Introduction
This Attachment addresses all coal exploration drill holes for the New Horizon #1 and #2 areas.
The initial coal exploration drilling was done by Peabody Coal Company, the owners of the original
permit on the site. All of these holes are addressed in Attachment 2.04.6-1. All hole locations and
status are shown on Map 2.04.6-7.
Additional holes were drilled by Western Fuels in 1993, 1994 and 1995. These are also shown on
the same map. The 1993 holes were part of an exploration permit and not part of the mining and
reclamation permit for the site. The 1994 and 1995 holes were part of the existing permit. All 1994
and1995 holes were mined through, as shown on Map 2.04.6-7. Additional holes were drilled in
2001, 2002 and 2004. Holes were planned for 2005, but were not drilled until the Spring of 2006,
(4/3 - 5/3/06). Going forward, periodic in-fill holes will be needed to more accurately define the coal
reserve at New Horizon. However, any new drilling programs will be permitted through the Notice
of Intent rather than through minor revisions of the permit.
. Typical Drilling Program Description
The typical drilling program consists of a series of holes selected to provide necessary in-fill data
for continued mine planning and engineering. The holes will be rotary drilled using air mist and a
bit diameter of approximately 5-1/2". The hole is drilled to approximately ten feet below the bottom
of the LDx to allow for complete loggin of the LDX seam.
The equipment to be used will consist of a medium sized single-wall air rotary truck mounted drill
rig similar to a Portadrill TKT or Failing CF-15. This type of rig is capable of drilling and coring at
the depths required for New Horizon. Suppport equipment will include a 1500 to 3000 gallon water
truck, and a driller's pickup. Actual equipment used and drill hole dimensions will vary depending
on the contractor chosen.
Earth Moving Requirements
Drill holes locations are typically selected to allow drilling with no earthwork required. However if
• any earthwork is required topsoil will be removed and stored properly pending post mine-through
REVISED FE- 2007
