2) SEDIMENT POND SURVEYS
Background
•
To determine the amount of sediment accumulation in each pond, Colowyo
presently conducts surveys on an annual basis. Decisions regarding the
dredging of ponds to clean out sediment accumulation is based largely upon
the results of these surveys. A summary of the survey results and dredging
activities are reported in the Annual Reclamation Reports.
A summary of each pond and the frequency of dredging is provided by the
following table.
DISCHARGE POINT 82 83 84 85 86 87 88 89 90 91 92 93
001 Streeter -- -- -- D D -- -- -- -- -- D --
002 Work Area -- -- -- D -- -- -- -- -- -- -- D
003 Gossard -- D. The Gossard Pond appears to be dredged more often, however this
trend was primarily a result of dredging because the trucks and dragline were
already onsite-for-other projects. Recent sur-vet's since 1991 have indicated
none of the ponds required dredging. In 1992, the Streeter Pond was cleaned
simply because contractor equipment was onsite and nearby at the Prospect
Pond construction. In 1993, the Work Area Pond was cleaned because equipment
was also onsite for other projects.
Probosal
Colowyo proposes to conduct sediment surveys on discharge points 003,
007 and 008 bi-annually and discharge points 001, 002, 004, 005, 006 every
third year. See the revised page 4.05-6 for the permit change.
,~R_aw
