Lloyd
P. O. Box 173
Pagosa Springs, CO 8].]1,.7
SUBJECT: Gravel Pit Reclamation Plan
Per your request for specific data concerning spacing and planting of
trees after mining„ the following information is provided.
It is our understanding that trees will be planted immediately after
_ gravel extraction ceases and topsoil is replaced. The recommended
spacing of trees planted for nursery stock trees is 50 square feet
or a spacing of 7 by 7 feet between trees.
The trees that will be planted after gravel extraction will be grown
under normal conditions with no additional irrigation. Therefore,
it has been our recommendation that no grass be planted in conjunction
with the trees. The grass will drain excessive amounts of water away
from the tree crop and will substantially decrease yearly growth rates.
If we can be of further service, please call.
Sincerely,
Dan I,yrui
District Conservationist
Soil Conservation Service
RECEIVEi~
DEC - ~ 1980
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
Colo.
