Projected minim plans and sequences for all leased areas are shown in <br />Volume 2, Map No. 2-5. <br />This permit describes the methods by which the coal reserves contained <br />within the leased acreage will be mined. Mining has ceased at the Bowie <br />No. 1 Mine, the area previously mined is shown in Volume 2, Map No. 2- <br />5. <br />The vertical extent of the mine workings is limited within the thickness of <br />the "D" seam and typically ranges from 8 to 16 feet. The horizontal extent <br />of the workings is depicted in Volume 2, Map No. 2-5. Information on <br />approximate starting and termination dates for each phase of underground <br />mining activity and the associated surface acreage undermined is depicted <br />in Volume 2, Map No. 2-5. <br />Due to a mine fire on June 1, 1986, the East Mine portals and ventilation <br />shafts were sealed. Approval of a permit revision application was received <br />on November 13, 1986, for the West Mine. Three portals were <br />constructed at this site. <br />Three underground entries were driven in a northwest direction to the <br />• South III submains. No change in the mine plan and only a change in <br />mining sequence occurred. Refer to revised Map 2-5 in Volume 2 for the <br />projected mining dates. <br />The West Mine facility was constructed as a temporary coal handling and <br />haulage facility. The West Mine operated until the East and West Mines <br />were connected in 1993. The East Mine rehabilitation project began in <br />January 1992. The North Mains By-Pass entries were developed to the II <br />West submains. The II West submains were developed from both the East <br />and West Mines and they were connected in mid 1993. <br />The operator requests the permit term be extended an additional five years. <br />The loadout will be operated during the next permit term even though the <br />mine may not. <br />(3) Not applicable. <br />J <br />27ii 2/98 <br />71z-28/~PiV-03 <br />t~.~ty/99 <br />
