• Four of the soil pits were within the 9.6 acre tract for the coal loadout <br />expansion. No samples were taken from the existing loadout area since <br />this area was previously disturbed. Sites 2, 3, & 4 for the second soils <br />survey correspond to the same sites sampled by the 1979 SCS survey. <br />Locations of all known soil sampling sites for the Southfield mine area <br />are depicted on the Mine Area Soils Map (Map 14). Known sample locations <br />for the SCS and Dorchester samples collected at the Southfield loadout <br />are shown on the Loadout Area Soils Map (Map 15). <br />Mine Area. Soil types found in the mine area are delineated on the Mine <br />Area Soils Map, (Map 14). This map was developed using unpublished SCS <br />soil survey information obtained from the Fremont County SCS office. Also <br />shown on the Mine Area Soils Map, (Map 14), are all known locations and <br />corresponding sample numbers for soil sampling sites within mine <br />disturbance areas. Soil pits were utilized to determine available topsoil <br />• and subsoil depths. Topsoil and subsoil depths for each sample pit are <br />summarized on Table 21, Topsoil and Subsoil Depths From Field Data for <br />Volumetric Calculations. This information in turn, formed the basis for <br />development of topsoil removal, storage, and redistribution plans <br />described in Sections 2.05.4, Reclamation Plan and 4.06, Performance <br />Standards - Topsoil. <br />Soils descriptions for soil units mapped within the Southfield mine area <br />were obtained from unpublished SCS soil survey information provided by the <br />Fremont County SCS office. This information was supplemented within <br />disturbance areas by analysis results from the soil pits. <br />Soils within the Southfield mine disturbance area fall within the <br />following classifications: <br />C~ <br />2.04.9-2 <br />
