~.05.6(3)(b) Hydrologic Monitoring Plan
Results of water quality and quantity monitoring and analyses will be reported
to the Division on an annual basis in the Annual Hydrologic Report. This Annual
Hydrologic Report will cover hydrologic years from October 1 of one year through
September 30 of the next year. The report will be submitted to the Division within 6
months of the completion of the hydrologic year. Additionally, results of water
sampling will be submitted to the Division each quarter, within 30 days of the end of
the quarter. The quarterly submittals will include the results of the pond inspections,
refuse pile inspections, surface water sampling results, groundwater sampling
results, refuse pile piezometer levels, and NPDES DMR's. The Division will be notified
vvi~hln i'vc ~~/ uayo alwl Ic~clvlug analyacavl Sample CollcCiivi15 alai inuwa~C
noncompliance with a permit or standard. Where NPDES permit effluent limitation
noncompliance has occurred, the analytic results along with written notice of
noncompliance will be forwarded to the Division.
•
Surface Water Monitoring Plan '
Monitoring of surface waters will include sediment pond and mine dewatering
discharges; as well as, quarterly flows in Coal and Jerry Creeks and annual springs
and seep surveys. Past monitoring included the Colorado River quality and creek
flows in Cottonwood and Rapid Creeks. Surface water monitoring locations are
shown on Exhibit 56.
Sediment pond discharge will be monitored only when pond dewatering occurs
as a result of a 10-year, 24-hour event or lesser event. A grab sample will be taken
from the pond discharge. Mine dewatering discharge points and pond discharges will
be sampled in accordance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System
governed by the State of Colorado and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The samples will be tested for the parameters listed in Table 18-1.

18-1
7-7-99
VOL 5 Tab 18
