- -, ,-, - - - ~ __. '"` PART 1!
~~ 'Page Il
Permit No. CO-0038024
C. DEFINITIONS OF TERMS
9. "Seven (7) day average" means the arithmetic mean of all samples collected in a seven (7) consecutive day period. (For fecal
coliforrn, see the definition for "thirty day average".) Such seven (7) day averages shall be calculated for all calendar weeks,
which are defined as beginning on Sunday and ending on SaNrday. If the calendaz week overlaps two months (i.e. the Sunday is
in one month and the Saturday in the following month), the seven (7) day average calculated for that calendaz week shall be
associated with the month [hat contains the Saturday. Samples may not be used for more than one (I) reporting period.
10. "Thirty (30) day average" means the arithmetic mean of all samples collected during a thirty (30) consecutive-day period. The
pemvttee shall report the appropriate mesa of all self-monitoring sample data collected during the calendar month on the
Discharge Motritoring Reports. Samples shall not be used for more than one (1) reporting period.
For fecal coliform bacteria concenhations, the thry (30) day and seven (7) day averages shall be deterauaed based on the
geometric mean instead of the arithmetic mean. The geornetric mean may be calculated using two different methods. For the
methods shown, a, b, c, d etc. are individual sample results, and n is the total number of samples.
O/=>
Merhnd t : Geometric Mean = (a*h*c*d*...) "*" -means multiply
Merhnd 7: Geometric Mean = antilog ([log(a)+log(b)+log(c)+log(d)+...]/n)
Graphical methods, even though they may also employ the use of logarithms, may introduce sigtrificant error and may not be
used.
In calculating the geometric mean, for those individual sample results that are reported by the analytical laboratory to be "less
than" a numeric value, the numeric value shall be used is the calculations uriless the result is "less than 2.2". If the result is "less
• than 2.2", use a value of 1 in the calculations. If al] individual analytical results for the month are reported to be less than
numeric values, then report "less than" the largest of those numeric values on the montkily DMR. Otherwise, reportthe calculated
value.
Far any individual analytical result of "too numerous to count" (TNTC), that analysis shall be considered to be invalid and
another sample shall be promptly collected for analysis. If another sample cannot be collected within dre same sampling period
for which the invalid sample was collected (during the same month if monthly sampling is required, during the same week if
weekly sartgrling is required, etc.), then the following procedures apply:
i) A rrunitnum of two samples shall be collected fox coliform analysis within the next sampling period.
ii) if the earrm~itagSISglle^ey is mnnthLXnr tec__-`s__frrgne>,r For the period with the invalid sample results, leave the spaces on the
corresponding~DMR for reporting coliform results empty and attach to the DMR a letter noting thata result of TNTC was
obtained for that period, and explain why another sample for that period had not been collected.
- If the carrPlinv.,~fre ~ ~eney is more fregt~enr than mnnrhly~ Eliminate the result of TNTC from any further calculations, and
use all the other results obtained within [hat month for reporting purposes. Attach a letter noting that a result of TNTC was
obtained, and list all individual analytical results and corresponding sampling dates for that month.
12. "Visual" observafion is observing the discharge to check for the presence of a visible sheen or floating oil.
13. "Water Quality Control Division" or "Division" means the state Water Quality Conhol Division as established in 25-8-10I et al.
D. REPORTING
1. Swnarnrv Re~rrmrements
All reports required for submittal shall be signed and certified for accuracy by the pennittee in accord with the following criteria:
a) In the case of corporations, by a principal executive officer of at least the level of vice-president or his or her duly aut}rorized
• zepresen[ptive, if such representative is responsible for the overall operation of the facility from which the discharge
described in the form originates;
b) In the case of a partnership, by a general partner;
c) In the case of a sole proprietorship, by the proprietor;
