A. Records of the Dry Creek No. 2 Ditch Company indicate that
54. 22 shares of the ditch were attached to 222. 9 acres of
pasture historically irrigated on the Deepe and Van Vleet
properties. Refer to Figure C-7 to see how this historic
irrigated area compares with the mine plan area. The amount
of water delivered under these shares was not by itself
sufficient to support the amount of irrigated pasture and
has historically been supplemented by ground water flowing
from the higher areas on the west to South Boulder Creek.
(See Figure C-8 for monthly diversions. ) In addition, Dry
Creek No. 2 Ditch is known to have a high rate of leakage
and has contributed to the sub-irrigation of the area.
Finally, the system of irrigation laterals used to distribute
• water diverted from the ditch to the land results in a
significant amount of the return flow from higher areas
beinq intercepted and applied to lower areas of the land.
Analvsis of these conditions for the 1960-1969 period and
the critical year 1954 indicates the distribution of water
under historic conditions described in Figures C-8 and C-9.
Within the mine plan area, there are approximately 118. 1
acres of historically irrigated pasture. Using the same
ratio of irrigated area to shares of Dry Creek No. 2 Ditch,
• approximately 28. 73 ditch shares were utilized in suoplvinq
the irrigation portion of the pasture 's water requirement.
